Stage 2 Corridor Investigation

The NSW Government is protecting land for a future freight rail link in two stages.

The Western Sydney Freight Line will be a proposed dedicated freight rail line connection between Western Sydney and Port Botany.

The new freight line aims to reduce congestion on local roads by allowing the transport of goods by rail across Greater Sydney, linking growing industrial areas and distribution centres. The new freight rail line will additionally free up the main West Rail Line to allow more passenger services to operate over time.

Stage 1 connects from the future Outer Sydney Orbital near Luddenham and runs to Horsley Park at the M7 Motorway. In June 2020, the NSW Government announced the Western Sydney Intermodal Terminal within the Mamre Road Precinct and protection of a part of Stage 1.

Stage 2 provides a freight link from Stage 1 near the M7 Motorway to the Southern Sydney Freight Line near Leightonfield. Early planning is currently underway to identify corridor options for discussion with key stakeholders.

Atlas is part of a multi-disciplinary team engaged to investigate corridor options and opportunities for integration of a future freight corridor between the M7 Motorway in Horsley Park and the Southern Sydney Freight Line near Leightonfield. In particular, Atlas is examining the land use/ property opportunities and impacts of corridor options.
