Strathfield Commercial Centres
Urban Design and Place Strategy
Strathfield’s commercial centres each play unique roles and serve distinct catchments. The Strathfield town centre is the local government area’s principal commercial and civic centre.
The Urban Design and Place Strategy is to integrate evidence and strategy that will inform amendments to the planning framework.
Established urban centres have established development patterns, valuable existing uses and (often) fragmented ownership patterns that can make site consolidation expensive. This can make revitalisation outcomes challenging to achieve.
Atlas is engaged to investigate the economic drivers and market dynamics at play in each of the centres, and specifically the role each centre plays in accommodating community and business need. These factors influence the commercial viability of land use and development typologies, which could be varied even within the same centre.
The findings and recommendations will inform the Strategy and ultimately amendments to the planning framework.
