In November 2016 the NSW Government announced Sydney Metro West – Sydney’s next metro network that would connect the Sydney and Greater Parramatta. In October 2019 the preferred route was announced along with new station locations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and Bays Precinct. Two strategic options were also identified – Pyrmont and Rydalmere for further investigation into the merit of providing a Metro station at either or both locations.

Atlas was part of a multi-disciplinary team engaged by Sydney Metro to carry out a land use appraisal in Pyrmont, in particular to examine the land use implications and if a metro station would be catalytic from a land use perspective for Pyrmont.

The land use appraisal findings informed a final Business Case and in December 2020 the NSW Government announced a Metro station at Pyrmont would be built.
