Broadmeadows Town Centre

Hume City Council

Economic Assessment and Investment Strategy

Encouraging and incentivising investment and development in Broadmeadows has been an objective of the Victorian Government and City of Hume for well over a decade.

The importance of Broadmeadows as a regional centre was identified in Plan Melbourne: 2017-2050 with Broadmeadows Town Centre recognised as one of Greater Melbourne’s nine Metropolitan Activity Centres. Its role will be further solidified following the announcement of the Suburban Rail Loop (SLR) in mid-2018 with Broadmeadows train station set to become a major interchange ‘super hub’ with a direct link to Melbourne Airport.

Atlas Urban Economics is engaged by Hume City Council and the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions to provide economic and market feasibility advice for the Broadmeadows Town Centre. This advice is staged in two parts:

  • Economic and Market Viability Study
  • Investment Action Plan

Both pieces of work will be used by Hume City Council to inform ongoing development planning for Council-owned landholdings and assist with State funding and policy support.

Both studies have been completed with the actions detailed in the Investment Action Plan providing the framework for future investigations over the coming years.
